Project Overview
The YVR Electric Ground Support Equipment (eGSE) Charging Station projects are key initiatives aimed at modernizing ground operations at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) by introducing state-of-the-art electric vehicle charging infrastructure. This multi-phase project involved the installation of high-speed, intelligent outdoor-rated EV chargers across multiple locations, providing efficient charging solutions for Air Canada’s eGSE fleet. By leveraging British Columbia’s clean hydroelectric power, the project significantly reduces carbon emissions and operational costs, aligning with YVR’s commitment to sustainability.
Scope of Work
- Installation of eGSE Charging Stations: Located at East Remote Stand Operations (RSO) near Gate E19, at Gate #47, supporting Air Canada’s eGSE operations at Pier C, and at Gates 50 & 51, with structural upgrades to accommodate large cargo loaders like the JBT AeroTech Commander 15i.
- Full Civil, Structural, Electrical & Communications Work: Infrastructure enhancements to support the high-speed intelligent charging network.
Key Challenges & Solutions
- Live Airport Operations: Construction was executed in high-traffic airside locations, requiring meticulous coordination to prevent operational disruptions. Complex Site Logistics: Managing concrete placements, structural installations, and electrical works while ensuring safety and accessibility. Tight Scheduling: Delivered in multiple phases with strict timelines to meet operational and sustainability objectives.
